Ribs are most popular in North American and Chinese cultures, and in fact for North American a barbeque is not considered complete unless there is some well done ribs present. Now ribs are usually prepared by one of three methods, that is, grilling, baking or smoking. Here we will look at a mixed approached to cooking ribs that is by precooking it first then baking. It has been said that the secret to cooking good ribs is to slow cook it as then the flavors are sure to marry to produce something exquisite.
Required Tools
- Medium pot
- Oven tray
- Brush to paint ribs
- Knife to chop garlic and onion
- Large bowl
Required Materials
- 3lbs Pork back Ribs (cleaned)
- Teaspoon Paprika
- Teaspoon chili Powder
- Large Onion, chopped fine
- 2gloves Garlic finely chopped
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt/to taste
- 1 litre beer
- Bay leaf
- Ingredient for sauce
- Honey
- Smoke Flavored Barbeque sauce
- ½ teaspoon chili powder
- Soy sauce
Instructions
- Firstly separate each rib from the other.
- Set Pork Ribs in a large bowl and add all ingredients except those for the sauce or beer.
- Rub in seasoning into ribs and allow it to sit for an hour or 2hours.
- In a medium sized pot bring beer to a boil and add bay leaf.
- Set ribs to boil for 1hour in beer over a low flame (this is optional, almost any liquid can be used to boil the ribs, however this will give your ribs a unique flavor). Given that yours ribs have been boiling for the hour they will be easier to cook when placed in the oven.
- Mix the ingredients for the sauce together and used a brush to coat the pre-cooked ribs with half the sauce.
- Spread the ribs on a oven tray and bake for 60 minutes at 350 F
- After the first 30 minute add the remaining sauce to the ribs and allow it to cook for the remaining 30 minutes slowly.
Tips
- Ensure the inner lining to the ribs is removed, this is hard to cook and may result in your ribs not being as good as they are suppose to be.
- Whereas after 1 hour or 2, the ribs are ready for cooking in terms of seasoning, over-night is best, as then the flavors get to soak more into the meat.
- Separating each rib will allow your ribs to cook faster.
- What separates good ribs from others, is how it is prepared and the best way to prepare your ribs is to slowly cook them, as then the flavors will marry together better
- Be careful not to overcook your ribs as then they will be dry and tough, and also not to cook them too little as then it could be harmful.
- For your sauce, it is ok to get creative and u could add a fruity flavor, however if you chose to do so then it is important that you cook the sauce over a medium flame.
