Getting Started :
Baking salmon can vary if you are using a specific recipe. The following instructions are general directions for baking thawed salmon. If you are using a specific recipe, follow those heating and timing instructions while keeping in mind some tips and tricks you’ll see here.
- Preheat the oven to 350°. The salmon must be cooked at a thawed temperature. If the fish is frozen, thaw the salmon by putting it in the refrigerator. You will probably need to thaw for about three hours depending on the size of the meat. Do not put the fish back in the freezer after it has been thawed. Use the fish as soon as possible once it has thawed.
- While the oven is heating, prepare the fish with a rub or marinade to add extra flavor.
- Rub- A rub is merely dry seasonings and spices literally rubbed onto the meat. Make your own concoction or buy pre-made rubs at most grocery stores. A simple salt and pepper rub works well. Rosemary, garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, oregano and chili powder are other suggestions to mix into rubs. Mix the dry ingredients together and massage the seasoning mixture into the fish. Flip the fillet and massage seasonings into the other side.
- Marinade- Marinades can be purchased at any grocery store. You can also simply marinade in olive oil, lemon juice, or any type of salad dressing such as balsamic or Italian. To marinade, place a thawed salmon fillet into a bowl containing marinade for fifteen minutes.
- Another way to prepare salmon is by using an olive oil marinade and then adding seasonings. Marinade the fish in olive oil and then rub on some sea salt and fresh ground pepper for a simple way to cook salmon that everyone salmon lover will enjoy.
- The key to adding flavor is to be creative but not to overdo it. People eat salmon because they enjoy the rich salmon taste and too much extra flavor will take away from the meat itself.
- Baking the Salmon
- Line a baking pan with a piece of foil. Place the salmon in the pan and place the pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes. The fish should look opaque when it is done. If you have thicker pieces of meat, you will need to bake longer, but don’t overcook the meat. Remove the fish from the pan when you take the pan out of the oven. Failing to do so will continue to provide heat to the fish and overcook the salmon.
Enjoy the baked salmon and pride yourself on cooking a simple, delicious, and healthy meal.
