How to Clean Antique Bronze

- Dust Removal - The primary cleaning procedure.
- Wipe the dust off using a soft piece of cloth once much of it has settled on the bronze’s surface. You can also use your vacuum cleaner.
- To suck out the dust completely, attach a brush to the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner.
- An old toothbrush is also a good tool in cleaning antique bronze. Use it to scrub off dust from curves and crevices.
- Grime Removal - Soap and water are the only things you need. Use distilled water in cleaning antique bronze. Avoid using hard water.
- While cleaning bronze with soap and water, do not forget to get rid of polish residue. These residues normally have a gray, dark green, or white color.
- Corrosion - This develops over extended periods of time. Corrosion is caused primarily by grime and degraded oils.
- Use a solvent to get rid of corrosion.
- Let the solvent dry and remove any remaining residue and dust.
- Wipe away grime using a piece of cloth dampened with water.
- Applying a polishing compound is optional. This type of product restores its original luster. A mild abrasive can be used for this purpose. Place a small amount of polishing compound.
- Remove the excess.
- Let the item dry.
