How to Get Gum Out of your Carpet
Gum can become one of the biggest worries if you happen to find it stuck on your carpet. You have most probably experienced frustrating efforts to remove this tenacious and sticky mess. The good news is it’s not that hopeless. You can keep your precious carpet free of problematic gummy residues by simple applying various surefire methods of getting rid of them.
Required Materials

- methyl salicylate lotion
- ice

- all-purpose cleaner

Instructions
- Steam cleaning. Steam cleaning will rid your carpet of stains and gums. The wisest choice is to use a highly pressurized steam cleaner with very hot water and a high-grade cleaning solution.
- Gum freezing. You can use the gum freezing method as an alternative. Here’s how to do it.
- Put cubes of ice in a plastic bag;
- Freeze gum as thoroughly as can be achieved. An average of a quarter of an hour is sufficiently long enough;
- After it has frozen, slowly remove the gum by peeling it from beneath. You can use a butter knife to scrape it off, but take care not to pull out the gum too fast.
- Using elbow grease. Using a carpet-friendly cleaning agent is also a good choice. Note that most of them were made to remove different kinds of stains.
- Use a sponge to apply the cleaner;
- Start scrubbing the gum from the carpet until it is completely gone.
- Using a cleaner. You can also use a multi-purpose spray cleaner.
- Spray the gum with the cleaner;
- Using a brush, scrub off the gum. Most of it will become miniature balls after a few minutes;
- Get rid of the remaining gum using your bare fingers.
- Using peanut butter. Peanut butter incredibly does well in removing gums.
- Rub the gum with a little peanut butter. Soon, the gum becomes miniature balls;
- Remove the peanut butter and the gumballs using a wet and slightly soapy rag.
- Removing with methyl salicylate lotion. Amazingly, enough it is also good in getting rid of gums from carpets.
- Apply a little amount of lotion on the gum;
- Get rid of the sticky gum using a cloth or a plastic bag.
