How to Wire Speakers

Wiring your speakers enables you to get them working and let them provide the needed entertainment during certain events. This task is very easy. You just need to perform the following steps.

Steps to Wire Speakers

  1. Choose the right speakers for you. There are many types and brands of speakers; each type has its own unique features and specifications. Get a set of large speakers if you frequently need to set up an audio system in open and huge areas. Get small speakers if you plan to use them in your room or in a relatively small place.
  2. Calculate the amount of power the speakers have and the amount of power they are capable of handling. Determine the ohm rating of the amplifier. 16 ohms generally provides high-quality sound. This rating also lets amplifiers function more efficiently.
  3. Add all the ohm ratings normally indicated at the back of the speakers. If you’ve small speakers, the sum of their ohm ratings should be 16 ohms. Amplifiers may overheat if the total ohm rating of all the speakers goes way above 16 ohm.
  4. Hook up the speakers in series mode.
  5. Attach the positive output to the positive input of your first speaker. The positive output is the red colored wire.
  6. Attach the negative wire to the slot of the first speaker.
  7. Connect this wire too to the positive slot of the second speaker. The negative wire is usually colored black.
  8. Do the said process until you’ve connected all your speakers. Make sure the last speaker’s negative slots have the last wire plugged in them. The last wire should also be connected to the amplifier’s negative slots.
  9. Test your speakers in low volume.
  10. Arrange your speakers and wires to your desired setup.
