How to Get Rid of Mice
Mice are one of the most annoying pests you can have in your home. They can destroy your belongings, consume your food items, and leave harmful bacteria and diseases. Fortunately, you can get rid of mice through a number of ways.
Steps to Get Rid of Mice
- Using a Mouse Trap.
If your problem is only one mouse, you can purchase just one trap. But if you have several mice in your home, you may want to purchase many mouse traps according to your estimate of their number.
Set the mouse trap in places where you notice trails of mouse activity. Walls and shaded areas are ordinary spots where mice are normally found. Never put mouse traps in places where your children or pets usually go to.
Check the mouse trap daily. If you find a dead mouse in the trap, wear a pair of gloves and place the dead mouse in a plastic bag before putting it in the garbage. You need to use gloves to protect you from any illnesses the dead mouse may cause. If the mouse is still alive, you need to kill it first before you dispose of it.
- Using Certain Products and Substances.
Peppermint oil is an example of such products. The smell of peppermint oil is too intense for mice and they would not be able to go near areas where you put this type of oil. Electronic mouse repellants are also good ways to get rid of mice. These devices emit an electronic sound, which mice can not tolerate. If you own cats, you can also try placing small amounts of kitty litter in places where you notice mouse activity. Mice would smell this substance and would leave the area.
Once you have done any of these techniques and you have seen an improvement, you need to make sure mice do not infest your home again.
- Check the house for uncovered pet food, crumbs, and spills.
- Place food in secure containers.
- Regularly clean your home and do not leave any room unchecked.
- Outside the house, place compost heaps and sacks of grain and seeds in metal containers.
- Find any small holes in walls, ceilings, and doors where mice can enter and seal the said spots.
