How to Moon walk

The moonwalk is a kind of dance that has come to be legendary all over the world. The dance was first made popular in the early 1980s by Michael Jackson. Moon walking is part walking backward and a part shuffle kind of dance. If you try the dance with your friends, you will be sure to have some good fun.

Here are some things you will need to moonwalk:

  • Any pair of shoes with smooth soles, like converse, dress shoes, keds, or at most put on socks.
  • A smooth flat surface.

The incredible smoothness is what brings out the appeal of the moonwalk. And while anywhere can be good for the moonwalk, it will helps and be more enjoyable and entertaining if it is on a flat, smooth, non-sticky surface. Many dance floors of course will be a good place for moon walking, and also most kitchen floors too. Do not use rough or uneven surfaces.

Instructions

  1. Set yourself into the L-position. Lift up your right leg and let the toes of your right foot be placed facing the floor, about a foot behind your left leg.
  2. Increase the width between your both legs and feet until you’ve found your balance and feel stable. The usual unwritten rule is to have the width of one of your feet 3-6 inches apart.
  3. Let your left heel be slide back and “into” the floor as you lean back on your right leg. This will make it possible for your left foot to finish behind the right leg. In the process, your right foot’s heel should still stay in the air, with your toes pointing down on the floor. Then push your heel back, past the right foot, push the next in like manner and on, and on and on.
  4. As you simultaneously snap the heel of your right foot down, snap the heel of your left foot up off the floor. This puts you in that L-position again, but this time, your feet is switched, as against the initial position.
  5. Do the previous two steps again, swapping the roles of your right and left foot.
  6. Use a head movement to create the feel of actual “moon walking.” As your leg slides back, let your head move forward as if you left it behind in the past seconds. Then pull your head again back to your body as you switch your other foot in the dance step.
