How to Use a Tube Turkey Call

Turkey calls are often used by turkey hunters to “call” or attract the wild turkeys, making them leave their hiding places. Using turkey calls have been proven to make good results. You can do turkey calls using voice turkey calls, box turkey calls, and tube turkey calls. Tube turkey calls are one of the most popular calls being used by top wild turkey hunters today. Probably the one thing that makes this call so popular is that with it you can make more than one kind of turkey sound.

Turkey Sounds

If you do not know much about turkey hunting, you may already be wondering how you can “call” them and what kinds of sounds work.

Most wild turkeys respond to different turkey sounds at different times. This is why it is important that when you are hunting, you come prepared, which means you also have the ability to make a lot of different turkey call sounds at your disposal.

Wild turkeys make different sounds, and with respect to what area you are hunting, these wild turkeys my respond to some specific sounds that other wild turkeys in other areas might not. Wild turkey sounds include “gobbles,” “kee-kees,” “cut,” “clucks,” “yelps,” and more. If you have good background in turkey hunting, you would know what these turkeys sounds really sound like when made by real wild turkeys.

What Is a Tube Turkey Call?

A tube turkey call is a small hollow tube with a latex strip positioned to cover one half of one end of the tube. Usually, a rubber band is used to hold the latex strip or latex reed in place.

How to Use a Turkey Tube Call?

• The most basic thing you have to do is to place your lower lip on the lower edge of the latex reed.
• Position your upper lip in such a way that it slightly overlaps the mouthpiece (this will be touching the body of the tube).
• Blow some air out and see if you make a sound by saying “tick” or “tuck.” If not, you may not have positioned your lips right. A good thing to do is to try to slightly move the positioning of your upper and lower lips while continuously blowing and saying “tick” until you get the right position and finally make a sound.
• To make a “gobble” sound, do the first four instructions but say “tooka, tooka” instead of “tick.”
• To make a “kee-kee” sound, do the first four instructions but say “tee, tee, tee.”
• To make a “cluck” sound, push your lips slightly onto the tube applying slightly more pressure and blow out some air in short bursts while saying “hut” or “what.”
• To make a “cut” sound, put more lip pressure and do the “cluck” instruction but say the “huts” more rapidly.

Be Careful

The gobble sound is especially very realistic and can make you sound very much like a real wild turkey. If you know that you are not alone hunting and that the other hunters in the area are not with you, take caution as they may shoot in your direction if they mistake you for real game.
