A cast net is a type of fishing net operated by one individual. You have to throw or cast the net out over a body of water. A cast net is normally weighted and is pulled back from the water through an attached line.
Steps to Throw a Cast Net Properly
- Locate the throw line of the cast net. Put the throw line through its hand loop. Tighten it around your dominant arm. Normally, your dominant arm is also the throwing arm.
- Coil the throw line into your throwing hand. See to it that you make neat and loose loops. Grasp the net ring in a palm-down manner. This means that your thumb should be at the bottom while your other fingers are on top.
- Using your other hand, reach your thumb and hold the lead line. Put the part of the lead line you grasped in your palm. The cast net ring will serve as the lock to hold the net in place. Then, turn your palm down. You can now throw the cast net.
- Rotate your cast net approximately ‘ turn from the place or item you want to target. Your throwing arm should always be straight and outstretched. Do a continuous smooth rotation toward the target.
- Release the cast net. It should be at a somewhat upward angle after you released it in the air. Ideally, it should strike the target in a circular manner. Allow the cast net to fall on the target.
- Pull the throw line so that the net would close in.
