The Rubiks cube is a mechanical puzzle with three dimensions; width, length and depth. It’s considered to be the top selling puzzle game and best selling toy. The Rubiks cube has six faces covered by nine colored stickers. The aim of the puzzle is to get all six sides in the same color. Follow these simple steps to solving the Rubiks cube.
Instructions to Solving the Rubiks Cube
- First do not cheat – ensure the cube is completely scrambled
- Next build a 2×2x2 block – place one corner and its 3 nearest edges in their correct position. For example if you choose the blue-yellow-orange corner the three edges are the blue-orange, the orange-yellow, and the blue-yellow. (Colors may differ by cube).
- Pair the corner with an edge
- Pair another edge with a center
- Join two pairs to make a 2×2x2 block
- Join the two remaining edges with the other two centers
- Complete the 2×2x2 block
- Build a 2×2x3 block – in this move one corner and two edges will be added to the 2×2x2 block.
- Choose one of the three remaining corners
- Pair the corner with an edge
- Pair the second edge with a center
- Join the two pairs
- Identify and turn bad edges into good ones – an edge is bad when it’s twisted in the wrong way – identify the remaining seven edges and choose one. Using the two free layers place the edge between the two center pieces (corresponding colors of the edge).
- If an edge is bad – select and place two bad edges in the position of the colored edges. Continue until all edges are good.
- Add 2 corners and 3 edges to the 2×2x3 block to create a 2×3x3 block (2 full layers).
- Follow the steps in 1 and 2 to position one corner and its two adjacent edges.
- Ensure you’re only turning the two unsolved sides. Maintain a firm grip on the 2×2x3 block so it doesn’t move.
- Join the two pieces in the upper layer and position the pairs
- At this point there is only one unsolved layer with the edges forming a cross – position the top corners correctly.
