- At the same time, hold down the Select (center) and Menu buttons. After holding these buttons down at the same time for six to eight seconds, the screen will go blank and then the Apple logo will appear.
- If your iPod is still not working, you may need to repeat Step Two multiple times.
Resetting iPods with a Scroll Wheel, Touch Wheel or Dock Connector
Instructions
- Slide the Hold switch to on, then immediately move it to the off position again.
- At the same time, hold down the Play/Pause and Menu buttons. After holding these buttons down at the same time for six to eight seconds, the screen will go blank and then the Apple/iPod logo will appear.

- a) Apple’s official website recommends that if your iPod will not stop displaying one of the following messages, you should eject it from iTunes instead of resetting it:
- Do not disconnect
- Sync in Progress. Please wait…
- Connected. Eject before disconnecting
If you eject your iPod but the message is still present, you may then benefit from resetting your iPod.
