How to Repair Window Blinds
When your window blinds get damaged or do not work properly, you normally just replace them with new ones. But with the following steps, you can still repair your window blinds and continue using them for a longer time.
Steps to Repair Window Blinds
- Bring down the blind and look for crooked slats. Once you find crooked slats, move them to the unlock position by using the wand or the tilt cord of the blinds.
- Unclip the window blinds from their brackets. The steps in removing the blinds from the brackets may differ from one type of window blind to another, so check the structure of the one you are working on. After removing the blinds, place them on a flat surface.
- To see the other parts of the blinds that may be broken, remove the caps and the cover of the bottom rail. You will then see the knots of the string ladders and the lift cords. Check if the knots are loose or tangled together and tighten or untangle them accordingly.
- If the ladders of the blinds are broken, disconnect them by removing the lift cord ends at the rail.
- If you are replacing broken slats, pull the lift cord off first from the slats before removing the defective ones. If you are replacing the lift cords, pull the cords from the head box before taking off the damaged parts and replacing them with new ones. If you are going to replace the ladders of the window blinds, detach the ladders from the tilt tube. This is found in the head box. Then attach the new ladders to the bottom rail and tilt tube.
