How to Repair Drywall
Do you have a hole in your drywall? While you may be tempted to call a contractor to come out and repair your drywall, you can save a lot of money by completing the repair yourself. Even if you don’t have much experience completing repairs around your home, as long as you have the right materials, you shouldn’t find repairing drywall to be very difficult.
Required Materials
- Adhesive Wire Mesh
- Hand Towel
- Joint Compound
- An old Towel
- Sand paper
- Paint
Repairing Small Holes in Drywall
Instructions
- Step One: Clean off any debris or dust that was created when the drywall was broken with an old towel.
- Step Two: Take your adhesive wire mesh and cut a piece that is two to three inches larger than the hole it will be covering.
- Step Three: Place the piece of adhesive wire mesh over the hole and hold it firmly in place.
- Step Four: Use your trowel to cover the entire piece of adhesive wire mesh with joint compound. Once you have covered the entire area, use the trowel to wipe off the excess joint compound.
- Step Five: Allow the joint compound over the adhesive wire mesh to fully dry.
- Step Six: Use the sand paper to sand and smooth down the dried joint compound.
- Step Seven: Clean off any dust created by the sanding.
- Step Eight: Repeat Steps Four through Seven.
- Step Nine: Once you finish sanding the repair area, if it looks even with the rest of the wall, you can feather the edges so that the repair blends in fully with the wall.
- Step Ten: Clean off any remaining dust from the sanding and paint the repair area to match the rest of the wall.
