How to Repair a Trampoline
A trampoline is made of a strong canvas sheet attached by springs to a metal frame. It is a gymnastic apparatus used for tumbling in the air. Trampolines are available in round and rectangular shapes. With constant use, they may develop problems - often these can be repaired at home.
Broken Spring
Required Materials
- new spring (with the same measurements as the damaged one)
Instructions
- Measuring - Measure the length and diameter of the old spring and purchase a spring that exactly matches these measurements.
- Remove Old Spring - Slide the spring’s end out of the grommet hole. Remove the other end from the tubular frame.
- Install New Spring - Slip the end of the replacement spring into the fabric mat. Carefully hook the other end into the frame.
‘Hopping’
Required Materials
- metal anchors with straps
Instructions
- Metal Anchors - Installing long metal anchors with straps will solve the ‘hopping’ motion of the frame that occurs when the trampoline is not securely attached to the ground. The anchors will securely hold the straps, which will in turn secure the tubular frame.
Sun Damage
Required Materials
- duct tape
- replacement mat
Instructions
- Cover Areas of Damage - Use duct tape to cover the areas or spots on the mat that have developed sun damage.
- Replace the Mat - If you discover that the entire mat has developed damage or has weak spots, it is highly recommended that you replace the mat.
Tips and Warnings
- Cover the trampoline when not in use to protect it from the elements.
- Ensure that the trampoline is firmly secured to the ground, especially while you are setting it up. When the trampoline is firmly secured, it will remain intact even during strong winds and harsh weather conditions.
- Make sure that you thoroughly inspect the trampoline before each use. Any kind of negligence in this step can lead to injuries.
- Check for holes or tears, missing or broken springs, a firmly attached safety pad, and that the frame and legs are in good condition.
- Place the trampoline in a sheltered area, especially when not in use.
- The trampoline will need to be re-sewn when its stitching begins to wear out.
- Always buy a trampoline brand that offers a warranty.
