How to plant cucumbers

Cucumber is a veggie-fruit plant that has a lot of vitamins and minerals. Cucumber enhances the beauty of your nails, hair and skin this is why cucumber is widely used in cosmetic products. Cucumber also aids in digestion and constipation because of the roughage which it is constitute. Cucumbers are grown for eating fresh or preserving as pickles.

Required tools

• Gardening gloves
• Gardening spade
• Shovel

Required materials

• Easily drained soil
• Seeds of cucumber
• Water
• Organic fertilizer

Instructions

1. First locate the area suitable for planting the cucumber. Soil must be loose or even sandy to allow drainage easily.
2. Cucumbers should be grown in warm climate, where sunshine is most times present.
3. Put on protective gardening gloves.
4. Use a gardening spade along with a shove to loosen and turn soil over.
5. Remove any large sticks, rocks or trash that maybe present in the soil.
6. Organic fertilizer may be added to soil to improve cucumber growth.
7. Decide the number of plants needed and pile soil in a hill shape according to the number of plants needed. The hill shape should be about six (6) inches high and thirty two (32) inches apart.
8. The hills will allow the cucumber vines to grow out and down into your garden.
9. Plant seeds 1/2 inch deep in to the soil, in groups of five every twelve to fourteen inches down the row of piled soil.
10. Water plant on a weekly basis especially if there has been no rainfall.
11. Thin plants to three plants per group after emergence. Mulch or cultivate to keep weeds under control.
12. After a period of six weeks the cucumbers will be full-grown.

Tips & Warnings

• Making piles are especially important in heavy soils and poorly drained areas because cucumbers must have good drainage.
• Keep soil evenly moist.
• Water the cucumbers well each week if you want them to be juicy and firm!
