How to make Swiss Steak

The name does not refer that its origin is from Switzerland. Instead to the process of “swissing”, this refers to fabric or other materials being pounded or run through rollers in order to soften it. Swiss steak is made from tough cuts of meats usually the chuck or round.

Required tools

  • Large skillet
  • Tenderizing mallet
  • Knife
  • Cutting board

Required materials

  • 2lb Round steak
  • 1/3 cup Flour
  • 1tsp Salt
  • 1/4tsp Black pepper
  • 3tsp Vegetable oil
  • 1/2 Green bell pepper sliced
  • 1/4 cup Onion sliced
  • 1 Canned tomatoes
  • 1 clove of Garlic chopped finely
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Purchase the desire amount of round steak needed. Cut into serving size.
  2. Sprinkle the sides with flour. Use the tenderizing mallet to pound meat. The flour will absorb into the meat.

  4. Heat skillet and add vegetable oil. Place the meat into the skillet, brown well on both sides. This takes about 15 minutes.
  5. Add onion, green peppers, garlic, canned tomato and water to meat.
