Making hair bows is an enjoyable project you can do with your friends and family. Here are the steps in creating attractive hair bows.
Steps to Make Hair Bows
- Prepare the required materials. You need two pieces of ribbon. One should be two and a half inches wide. The other should be around 5/8 inch wide. You can get ribbons having different colors or a set with only one color. Just make sure that the colors match if you choose the former option. Remember to get satin ribbons or sheer ribbons as these are flexible. You also need pieces of floral wire. The tools you need are a ruler, a pair of scissors, and a glue gun.
- Start making your hair bow. You can choose between two styles: a pinwheel bow or a tuxedo bow.
To make a pinwheel bow, take the larger ribbon and cut a section of about 40 inches. Take a four-inch section of the ribbon and hold it face-up. Twist it a half turn and form a loop.
- Repeat the steps, this time using a three-inch section. You should now have two loops. Repeat the steps a number of times depending on how many layers of three-inch and four-inch loops you want.
- Take a piece of wire and use it to secure the middle ‘ around five inches of wire. Then cut the tails for the bow. Next, arrange the loops to create a pinwheel appearance. Once you have arranged the loops to the desired form, glue the bow to a barrette.
- You can also create a tuxedo hair bow. To do this, cut one yard from the wider ribbon. Take the ribbon and hold it face-up. Measure one inch and at that point, twist the ribbon a half turn. Measure another four inches.
- Fold the ribbon over to create a loop. Use your fingers to hold the loop in place. Do this step again going to the other direction. Once you are done with the second loop, you can proceed to create more loops. The next set of loops should cover the previous set of loops. When you are done making the loops, secure the middle of the bow with a piece of wire.
