A teepee is actually a portable and strong structure for camping while you are spending a few days in the wilderness. Most people think that building a teepee is difficult. Follow the following steps to easily and quickly build your own teepee.
Steps to Make a Tepee
- Cut the canvas you’ll use for your teepee in a half circle shape. The half circle should be twice of the length of its width. Most expert teepee builders recommend a size of 15×30 feet.
- Cut the two smoke flaps at the center of your canvas. Afterwards, create marks for two half circle door openings into each end of your canvas. Cut the openings accordingly. This will make a circular opening when you bring together the edges of the canvas.
- Take an extra piece of canvas and create a door from it. Make a pocket in the door and insert a heavy stick in the pocket. This stick will hold the door. Place the door on the teepee canvas.
- Create small three-cornered pockets of canvas. Sew the small pockets to the tip of your smoke flaps. Find areas in the smoke flap where there will be much strain and use extra pieces of canvas to strengthen these areas.
- Take a strong piece of rope and hem it around the circular base of the teepee canvas. Ensure that you make equal rope loops around the teepee. Then, attach a rope to the top. This will bind the cover to the poles.
- Take around twelve poles. These poles should have a length that is three feet more than the width of the canvas. Take three poles and form a tripod. Tie the tripod a bit higher than the canvas cover.
- Place the remaining poles on the tripod. Pull the canvas around the structure of poles. Fasten the cover at the top with wooden pegs and hook the bottom of the canvas to the ground.
- Insert two to three light poles into each pocket of the smoke flaps. This serves as the chimney of the teepee when you create a fire in it.
