How to make a Paper Airplane
According to wikipedia a paper plane, paper airplanee, paper glider, or paper dart is a toy plane made out of paper. It is also sometimes called aerogami, after origami (the Japanese folding). In Japanese, it is called kamihikōki, it is popular in Singapore because it is one of the easiest types of origami for a novice to master. The most basic paper plane would only take five steps to complete there are many different models in the paper plane world among these are the Duck, the Condor, the Canada goose, the Tumbler and the Zump. We will be looking at the Zump design.
Required Materials
- One sheet of common notebook paper or stationery should work the paper used should be rectangular in shape with smooth edges and square corners letter size would be ideal.
- A smooth flat work surface
Required Tools
- Optional based on the plane design a pair of scissors or paper shears
- A pair of hands
Instructions
- We will be starting off with the Zump Cut the letter size in half horizontally
- Taking one of the halves turn it up and then crease the middle vertically
- Fold and unfold in the top corners of the paper so that they form 90 degree angles meeting along the creased line
- Fold down the top where the corners ended
- Now refold the pre-creased corners (triangles)
- Fold the paper along the first creased line thus bisecting the triangles
- Fold the upper corners of the triangles inward whilst folding the entire paper in half
- Now fold the edges down making them a bit smaller than the body to make the wings of your paper plane
- Now open carefully the plane making sure the center triangle is together and to one side
- 10. Now fold the center triangle in half, tuck it in, and fold the paper airplane flat again.
- 11. Crimp the wingtips as shown and lift the wings up so that they are angled slightly upward.
- 12. Thus the finished product
