Having a high blood pressure is very alarming. This may mean that you have a certain disease in your heart or other organs like your kidney. This is why you need to know how to lower your blood pressure.

Steps to Lower Blood Pressure

  1. If you smoke, you need to try to quit this habit immediately. Smoking can be stopped through a number of ways. You can choose to reduce the number of stick you smoke everyday. You can try to stop smoking by determining a specific date wherein you will not smoke a single cigarette and try to refrain from smoking on the following days and even months.
  2. Losing excess weight is another way to lower blood pressure. This can be done through several steps.
    • You need to exercise regularly. Devote an hour everyday for aerobics, workouts, or any other type of physical activity of your choice. It is best to exercise half an hour after waking up in the morning. If you do not have enough time in the morning, you can exercise after work.
    • You also need to change your diet. Try to minimize the amount of oily and fatty foods in your daily meals. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. However, when eating vegetables, try to boil them or if possible, eat them fresh. Do not fry your vegetables all the time. During breakfast, you can have cereals or oatmeal.
    • Reducing your caffeine and alcohol consumption is also very important. If you frequently drink coffee, try to limit it to one cup per day. If you drink beer at night, you also need to limit it to one can or bottle.
    • You need to have ample nighttime sleep. Try to go to bed early and make sure you have seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. Arranging your bedroom properly and removing things that can distract you from sleeping are good ways to have continuous rest.
  3. If your blood pressure is still high despite your lifestyle change, you may want to consider taking medicine for it. Before doing so, consult your doctor and ask about the possible effects of taking such a product. While taking medicine to lower blood pressure, religiously follow the provided instructions and never take more than the suggested amount.
