Judges paneling is a wood type material used for walls and adds a classic feel to a room with its court-room touch. Here is a guide to installing judges paneling in your home.
Tools Required
- Sandpaper
- Nails / screws
- Drill
- Drill bits
- Table saw
- Hammer
Materials Required
- Raised panel system
- Chalk
- Latex caulk
- Wood glue
- Sand sealer
- Wood conditioner
- Varnish
Instructions
- Layout and identify all materials noting the length of the rails while moldings and matching the rails to each wall.
- Chalk a line around the room, at the height shown on the drawings for the bottom of the bottom rail.
- Ensure the bottom rail is leveled and lined up at the corners.
- Compare the wall width with the elevation drawing.
- Once the measurements are the same rip the end styles to the width.
- Install the end stile and apply a bead of caulk to the back of the stile to secure it in place until the top rail is positioned.
- Glue the spline at the joint of the stiles and rails.
- Use a tape measure to mark off the locations for the stiles.
- Use smaller nails to secure the hold down mold and all trim where possible.
- Use sandpaper for a more finished look.
- To prevent any uneven stain use wood conditioners then apply stain.
- Use sand paper, sand sealer and sand to seal the wood.
- Use a filler to fill the gaps and nail holes.
- Varnish as desired.
Tips and Warnings
- To level the bottom rails try to position the nails or screws in the rails low enough to be covered by the base mold.
- Do not use the panels to mark off locations for the stiles.
- Do not fill nail holes or gaps before you stain.
- Maintain relative humidity at the work site between 25% and 55% before, during and after installation.
