You may think that installing a door is best left to professional carpenters. But through following a set of moderately easy steps, you will be able to do this task yourself.

Steps to Install a Door

1. Planning. Determine the measurements of the space where you will set up the new door. Decide the type of door you want to install. Normally, most individuals choose a pre-hung designed door. This is one that has pre-assembled jambs or frames to which the door is attached.
2. Preparing the tools you will need. These include a saw, hammer, measuring tape, level, utility knife, and prying tools.
3. Starting to work on the area where you want to install the door. If there is presently a door in the spot, remove it from its hinges. Then pry out the jambs and trims.
4. Positioning the new door at the opening. It is a good idea to have someone to help you in this step. Let your companion stay at the other side of the door. This will help you easily and accurately position the door.
5. Placing the shims to the trimmer studs and assembling jambs. Do this step on both sides of the door. Use your utility knife to remove the excess shims.
6. Making sure the door is level. Then nail the jambs in place. Use a set of 2-inch nails for this process. Stop hammering before the heads of the nails reach the door’s surface.
7. Testing the door by opening and closing it for a number of times. If it opens and closes smoothly, you can finally install the exterior trimmings.
