How to Grow Raspberries

Raspberries are excellent for a lot of recipes and beverages. there are things to consider when planting them, depending on the season.

Steps to Grow Raspberries

  1. Properly choose the area where you will plant the raspberries. Look for a spot having adequate sunlight. Its soil should be sandy loams and should be dry during spring time.

Never plant your raspberries in areas where potatoes, tomatoes, or eggplants have grown for the past 3 to 4 years. The said crops have a fungus that can harm the raspberries. Make sure the area is safe from animals and is not too accessible to people.

  2. Plant the raspberries. The raspberries should be placed in rows. Each row should have two feet of distance from one another. Mark the area accordingly before digging holes for the raspberries. Put a good amount of fertilizer on the soil while you are digging holes. Remove all weeds and roots you will find in the soil since these will affect the growth of the plants.
  3. Place the raspberry roots in the holes. Cover them with 8 centimeters of soil. Keep the soil moist. Provide at least one inch of water every week and provide more during hot weather.
  4. Add more fertilizer two weeks after you planted the raspberries. Remember to put the fertilizer 4 inches away from new shoots. Avoid putting too much of the said product.
  5. Perform the needed activities during each season. During summer, prune the dead, broken, and diseased raspberry plants. Remove the canes growing beyond the plant area you specified. During November, put 6 inches of leaves and straw on the raspberries. During spring time, cover the raspberries with 4 inches of mulch.
