How to Fix a Slow Drain

Although marketers would like you to think otherwise, many times, the products you find in stores are not the most effective way to fix a slow drain. This may make you think you need a plumber to fix your slow drain, but in many situations, you can easily fix your slow drain with just a little investment of time.

Required Materials
:

  • Two quarts of boiling water
  • Half cup of baking soda
  • Half cup of white vinegar

Required Tools :

  • Wire clothes hanger

Instructions :

  1. Begin by collecting the materials you will need to fix the slow drain.
  2. Once you have all of the materials you need, start by pouring the half cup of baking soda and the half cup of white vinegar down the slow drain.
  3. Allow the baking soda and white vinegar to sit in the drain for thirty minutes.
  4. Pour the two quarts of boiling water down the drain to flush out the baking soda and white vinegar
  5. Test the drain to see if it is back to normal. If it is, you do not need to follow any additional steps.
  6. If the drain is still slow, straighten out the wire clothes hanger.
  7. Once the wire clothes hanger is straight, lift up the drain cover and use the hanger to fish out anything that may be clogging it (hair is one of the most common problems).
  8. Once you have finished using the wire clothes hanger, return the drain cover to its original position and test the drain.
  9. Although Steps One through Eight should fix almost any slow drain, if you are still experiencing problems after completing these steps, you should enlist the help of a professional plumber.
