How to Embroider
Steps to Embroider
- Choose the pattern. There are hobby stores that sell embroidery patterns with different styles and designs. You should choose simple patterns if it’s your first time to embroider.
- Select the fabric. Calico and homespun are the most widely used types of fabric. These are made of cotton and are easy to embroider on. Determine the size of the fabric you will use.
- Trace the pattern onto the fabric. You can use a pencil or a washable marker to do this. Ensure that the pattern and fabric are straight. If your fabric has a light color, place the pattern underneath the fabric and start tracing. If the fabric has a dark color, find a well-lighted window. Tape the pattern on the window pane, place the fabric on the pattern, and start tracing.
- Place the embroidery hoop onto the fabric. The embroidery hoop is a ring made up of two parts. Ensure that the fabric is tightly held between the hoops.
- Separate your embroidery threads. Embroidery threads are normally made of 6 strands. It is a good idea to use two or three strands so the thread will not easily break. You can use your fingers to gently pull apart the strands.
- Carefully thread the needle and begin embroidering. Wetting the thread will allow you to easily make it pass through the needle’s eye.
There are different types of embroidery stitches. The backstitch is an easy stitch to master if you’re just beginning to learn how to embroider.
