How to deal with script errors

Script errors indicate that a requested web page does not work or display properly. The root of the errors usually lies in the Web Development process and cannot be resolved by the end user. However, it can be disabled from your Internet Explorer so it will not cause further damage.

Disabling script errors

  1. Launch Internet Explorer.
  2. Go to ‘Tools’ then click ‘Internet Options’ from the menu.
  3. Choose and open the ‘Advanced’ tab.
  4. Look for ‘Disable Script Debugging’ and check its box.
  5. Un-check the box that instructs the computer to display script error notifications.
  6. Click ‘Ok.’

Miscellaneous troubleshooting steps

  1. Recheck your firewall settings- depending on your Internet Explorer configuration; your anti-virus could be causing the script errors. If your anti-virus is programmed to scan your downloaded files, it is possible for this to cause the error.
  2. Your computer’s scripting engine could be corrupted.
  3. Your computer’s Internet related folders could be corrupted.
  4. The drivers for your computer’s video card could be corrupted.
  5. If any of the above are validated true, try troubleshooting the element of your computer causing the problem.

Tips and warnings

  • Determine where the error really is; if you encounter the script error only when you open a few Web pages, try checking with other accounts to see if the problem still persists. Change the user account, your browser, or the computer.
  • If the error still runs when you use a different account or unit, the problem is with the Web page.
  • If the error does not reoccur when you’re using a different account or unit, the settings in your user profile might be causing the problem.
  • If the problem is with your user profile, adjust it using the local administrator account.
