How to Crochet

Required Materials
  • Crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Small scissors
  • Yarn

Steps to Crochet

  1. Firmly hold your crochet hook in your right hand, and do a slip knot on the hook.
  2. Bring the yarn over the hook starting from the back to the front, then grab the yarn with your hook.
  3. Draw your hooked yarn through the slip knot, and move it onto the hook. You will make one chain stitch by doing this.
  4. Repeat the two previous steps in sequence 28 times. Afterwards, you will form 29 chain stitches and one loop remaining on the hook.
  5. Skip the first stitch you have made, and insert the hook carefully into the center of your succeeding chain stitch.
  6. Draw the yarn through the chain stitch. Move it up onto the hook. You have now done two loops on the hook.
  7. Bring the yarn over your hook from the back to the front. Draw the yarn through the two loops on the hook. One loop will remain on the hook. This makes one crochet stitch.
  8. Do the two previous steps on the remaining chain stitches. While doing so, make sure that you are working at the last chain. After completing the remaining chain stitches, you have finished a row of crochet.
  9. Measure your crochet. It should be around 7” in width. If the crochet is too wide, try using fewer starting chains.
  10. Once you have finished the row, do one stitch. Turn the crochet counter-clockwise afterwards. The hook should still be on the chain. Begin another row from the stitches of the previous one.
  11. Do one crochet stitch in each of the previous row’s remaining stitch. Repeat this step until your work is 9” long.
