How to Cook Corned Beef

Corned Beef actually refers to a cut of beef that is pickled or cured in brine the cuts are usually briskets but some can be silverside or round. It is often found pre-cooked in groceries and delis, and is the meat used to make sandwiches. Since it is pre-cooked it can be eaten straight from the package. Most people just boil the beef to make it tenderer

It has become a sort of tradition in the sates to cook corned beef during St. Patrick’s Day although there is no real evidence to say the tradition is linked to Ireland.

Required Materials

  • 41/2 lbs Corned Beef
  • 1 cup strawberry preserves
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons sugar

Required Tools

  • A large Pot
  • Baking Tin
  • Mixing bowl

Instructions

  1. Remove the beef from the package before attempting to cook it. Then place it in a large Pot
  2. Pour water into the pot until the beef is covered proceed to bring the beef to a boil
  3. Once the water is boiling lower the heat to a simmer and then place the cover on the pot
  4. Check the beef occasionally adding more water if too much has evaporated.
  5. Corned beef is cooked when it can be torn apart easily remove from the pot when this is so.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  7. Coat pan with non-stick cooking spray Put beef in pan with a little water
  8. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and let bake for about 2 hours then drain the liquid
  9. In the bowl mix the other ingredients and spread the mixture evenly on the beef.
  10. Bake the beef again for 30 minutes after which remove from oven and let it cool before serving.

Tips

  • The length pf time it takes the beef to cook depends on the weight two pounds would take approximately one and a half to two hours to cook
