How to cook Catfish

These fishes do make for a really good meal, here I will show you two ways of cooking them so that you really enjoy them. Catfish are not only tasty but they are also very nutritious containing high levels of protein.

Required tools

  • Large frying pan/skillet
  • Medium bowl

Require materials

  • ¼ cup Cornmeal
  • ¼ cup Flour
  • 1 cup vegetable oil or enough to cover cat fish in pan
  • 1teaspeen garlic powder or mixed herb powder.
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Catfish fillets

Instructions

  1. Put the thawed fish fillets in medium bowl and add ½ the salt and pepper required to season fish.
  2. If using mixed herb powder add a dash to the fish and rub in with hands.
  3. Mix flour, cornmeal garlic/herb powder, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper together.
  4. Add vegetable oil to skillet enough to fry fish easily( should cover the fish) and set on a medium flame.
  5. Coat the catfish with the mixture, shaking off the excess.
  6. To the hot oil add catfish.
  7. Fry for about 6 minutes or until golden brown

The second method to cooking catfish, we will be making Catfish fingers

Required Tools

  • Large skillet
  • Large bowl

Required material

  • Desired amount of catfish
  • Fine grounded cornmeal
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl add thawed catfish and salt and pepper to taste and rub in.
  2. Cut catfish into smaller pieces about 1 inch wide.
  3. Add vegetable oil to the skillet and heat oil on a medium flame.
  4. Fry catfish in about 2inches of oil for 5minutes or until golden brown.

Tips

  • Be sure to wash your catfish with vinegar first, this will help to make clean it up. Vinegar or lemon juice can be used. Remember to rinse with pure water after washing with vinegar/lemon juice.
  • In frying food its always best to try to remove excess oil, so by simply using paper towels, you can soak away oil.
  • For both ways of cooking catfish above a simple sauce is ideal. By adding white wine vinegar, finely chopped parsley, scallions, garlic and shallot, with salt and pepper to taste, you would have created a spicy dipping sauce and be able to enjoy your catfish.
