How to Build a Wooden Deck
If you want to complete your backyard, you can build a wooden deck. Even if you don’t have a lot of experience, you can get it done.
Required Tools and Materials
Circular saw
Decking
Auger
Chalk line
Decking screws
4 x 4s
2 x 8 x 12 wood boards
Hammer
Jig saw
Dust mask
Gloves
Drill
Shovel
Screwdrivers
Goggles
Concrete mix
Prepare the Area
Choose a suitable area around your yard. When you find one, measure the available space. You’ll want to do this so you can get the right amount of materials. Make a note of these sizes. Now sweep away the debris. Cut the grass and remove the rocks and all the other dirt there. To build a wooden deck, the ground must be level.
Make the Outer Frame
Take the 2 x 8 and create the frame from these boards. Make the front and back 12 feet. Saw the sides and make it 11 ft and 8 in. Take the screws and link the side boards within the front and back boards.
Make the Footers
From the 4 x 4s make the posts or footers. Put each one at least two feet in the ground. Throw in some concrete mix up to a couple of inches off the surface. Sprinkle dirt over it. Take some screws and connect it to the house. Be sure that the post and frame are on level terms.
To build a wooden deck, the posts must be no more than 4 ft distant from one another. By adding plenty, you’ll be making a much stronger base.
Make the Interior Boards
The footers are oriented north / south and east / west. Make one board per post. Be sure that they are cut precisely. For added strength, use at least 3 screws for every board.
Putting it All Together
Attach the boards to the footers. 4” screws are preferred for this task. For faster work, have people help you out. Drill all the appropriate holes to fasten all the screws in place. When you build a wooden deck, you should make notches on the boards.
Use the jig saw to make the cuts (2 in wide and 4 in deep). Make these on both north / south and east / west. Do this near the footers. Put screws in there. The end result will be stronger boards.
Tips
There are several pre-made stairs available for decks. Consider purchasing them so you don’t have to create any.
You can apply staining to give it a nice glossy finish. At the same time, it protects the product from early decay and makes it more weather resistant.
In this project, measurements are the key. Make sure that they are accurate. A mistake could be disastrous.
Wear the eye goggles to keep splinters away from your eyes. If you will use nails, take care when you utilize the hammer.
Once finished, you can relax and admire your work. Although it takes some time, you can build a wooden deck. It just requires some persistence.
