A static 3-phase converter is really just a start circuit; it disengages once a motor starts working. They are available in many different kinds, and are often confused with frequency converters.

Instructions
- Wiring Code – Look for a reliable wiring code and follow all local codes carefully. Be sure to ground the metal frame to make it safe.
- Idler Motor Placement – Select your 3-phase idler motor. The name plate of the motor should be checked before attaching it to any wire. Ball-bearing motors are best if available.
- Start and Run Capacitors – Start and run capacitors are to be added at this point. Choose the type of capacitors according to the specifications of the motor you have chosen. Don’t get this wrong!
- Adding Fuses – Prop a schematic diagram in place before starting work with the fuses – it will help if you can keep the local coding in front of you for reference. The run capacitors and the overloads are also to be wired. The selection of the wire size should be done according to the flow of current. Voltage drop in longer wires should not be more than 3%.
- Current Balancing Rests – Now conduct current balancing tests. After fitting all the wires, check whether the 3-phase converter works according to your specification. Add a disconnect switch or a plug to keep all the conductors carrying current separate from one other. Always follow the general rules of wiring.
Tips and Warnings
- Do not start working on any electrical device until you are sure about the wiring code.
- Use plastic, non-conducting gloves at all times.
- Make a paper plan first so you have a reference to work from whilst on the job.
