How to Build a Solar Furnace

Building a solar furnace is very easy once you have all the necessary materials.

Required Materials

  • furnace tray
  • copper tubing
  • frame absorber plate
  • insulation
  • glazing

Steps to Build a Solar Furnace

  1. Decide on the exact type of solar furnace you want. Here are the major types of solar furnaces:
    • Monocrystalline Solar Furnaces These have perfectly round solar cells stacked in uniform rows.
    • Polycrystalline Solar Furnaces These are diverse and have a square shape. These furnaces are relatively inexpensive to build compared to other furnaces.
  2. Select a good place for the said device. Find an area that receives much direct sunlight.
  3. Prepare the solar cells of the furnace. Generally you should set the cells in a horizontal position. You can either place them on the ground or on the roof. This depends on the area you chose. Make sure though that the solar cells are safe from animals and are protected against heavy rain and strong winds.
  4. Assemble the solar furnace. Since solar furnace kits differ from one brand to another, you need to closely follow the instructions included in the one you acquired. The general steps in setting up the furnace include setting up the base, attaching the solar cells to the component for converting the suns heat and connecting it to the wires transporting the energy to electronic devices.
  5. Test the solar furnace. Allow direct sunlight to hit the solar panels. The solar panels will then store heat and eventually produce energy to run certain household appliances.
