How to bake potato

Potatoes can be baked in a convection oven, a microwave oven or on a grill. When well cooked, a baked potato has a fluffy interior, but a crispy skin.

Required tools

  • Large sauce pan
  • Knife
  • Baking dish

Required materials

  • 2 pound potatoes
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 pint milk
  • 1 oz butter
  • 2 cups water

Instruction

  1. Peel and wash potatoes thoroughly. Use a fork to pierce potatoes, this ensures cooking all the way to the core.
  2. Boil water in a sauce pan large enough hold potatoes. Add potatoes to boiling water
  3. Boil potatoes for thirty minutes to soften them.
  4. Drain potatoes and add butter and milk. Mash potato until creamy.
  5. Fill the baking dish with the potato mixture. Bake at 180oC or 350oF for twenty minutes.

Tips and warning

  • A baked potato is also known as a jacket potato when given additional fillings such as cheese, ham, or chicken.
  • Some varieties of potato such as Russet and King Edward potato are more suitable for baking than others, due to both their size and consistency.
