How to Apply Halloween Makeup
Oftentimes, to go with their Halloween costumes, people like to apply some Halloween makeup to make the whole ensemble more convincing. Different looks would need different kinds of makeup and will require different ways in applying them.
Unlike normal day-to-day makeup, Halloween makeup can make use of just about anything you can creatively put together to give you the right effect. For example, to make scabs on your face, you can use some corn meal and gelatin to make realistic effects. But if you don’t want it to take too much work, some powder and basic facial cosmetics will do. For a more animated effect, you have to get hold of face paints.
Vampire Look
For a vampire look, you will need the following:
- White face powder or talc powder
- Some water
- Black eye liner
- Grey eye shadow
- Red lipstick
- Lip brush
- And of course, artificial fangs
Instructions
- First apply base on your face. Make sure to wash your face first and take away excess oils to make sure that your make up will stay on longer.
- Next, mix a little bit of water with some white powder (make sure to use just enough to cover your face as you don’t want to waste the rest) and work it to make just a slightly watery paste. You can use this to cover your entire face, ears, and neck—all exposed areas before the vampire collar.
- Try to make the application as even as possible. This will give a “bloodless creature” look.
- Your black eyeliner can be used to create a small point on the middle part of your hairline, small enough for anybody to notice its not hair, to create the illusion of a heart-shaped face as all vampires supposedly have.
- With the same eyeliner, darken your eyebrows a little bit making it pointier (pointing upward) at the curves. You can put a lighter shade on the bridges of your nose to make the face look shallow.
- Apply grey eye shadow on the lower lid of your eyes, working your down, reaching the portion just above the cheekbones. This will also enhance the sallow look of the face.
- Using a thin lip brush, apply some red lipstick as eyeliner on the lower eyelids; this will make the overall effect even creepier.
Darth Maul
If you have a lot of time before the costume party, a Darth Maul makeup will be fantastic. With just red and black face paint and a big black sheet of cloth, you’re off to become a Star Wars villain. For this you will need:
- Black and red face paint
- Good thin brushes
- Cotton buds and tissue paper
- A really good picture of Darth Maul’s face that will be what you will follow.
Instructions
- First, wash your face and get rid of all the oil to make sure the makeup stays on longer.
- Apply the black parts of Darth Maul’s face first. Now, making a really good copy will depend how good you are at accurately copying the black lines of Darth Maul’s face. A tip is to use thin nylon brushes for greater control and the hardness of the brush will be just right for applying the paint.
- Next, color all the blank areas of the face with the red paint using a slightly larger brush and that’s it.
- The cotton buds and tissue paper will be used to erase parts that you mistakenly painted on.
