How to Boil Peanuts

Boiled peanuts are a great treat! While boiling peanuts may take a long time, it is a very simple procedure. Boiling peanuts take little effort and anyone can do it.

There are two main ways to boil peanuts. You can use a crock pot or boil them on a stove top. The stove top method is a little quicker, but the crock pot method takes less effort on your part.

Required Ingredients

  • 1 Lbs raw shelled peanuts
  • Water
  • 4 – 5 Tbsp salt


Required Equipment

  • Three Quart Crock Pan
  • Stove
  • Large Pot
  • Sealable bag/container

Using a Crock pot to Boil Peanuts

Getting Started

Place one pound of raw, shelled peanuts in a large, three quart crock pot. Fill the crock pot with water. You will need to continually fill the pot because the peanuts will absorb the water. Let them soak for eight hours in the pot. Afterwards, drain the pot.

Cooking the Peanuts

Pick the skins off of the peanuts and return them to the pot. Refill the pot with water and add four to five tablespoons of salt. Add less or more depending on your taste preferences. Cook on low for eight hours. Increase the temperature to high. Cook for an additional ninety minutes. Drain the peanuts and allow them to cool for at least ten minutes before serving.

Boiling Peanuts on a Stove Top

Getting Started

Place one pound of raw, shelled peanuts in the largest pot you have. Fill water to the top of the pot. Continue to add water to the pot since the peanuts will absorb the water quickly. Add four tablespoons of salt to the pot and stir.

Cooking the Peanuts

Cook the peanuts at a high heat. Cover the pot. Bring the water to a boil. Once it is a rolling boil, reduce heat slightly. Add water as needed. Continue to boil for four hours. Remove a few peanuts from the water and let them cool. Shell the peanuts and sample to see if they are cooked as you like them. Once they are favorable, remove all of the peanuts from the water, drain, and cool. Let the peanuts cool at least ten minutes before serving.

Storing the Peanuts

Regardless of how you boil the peanuts, storing them is the same. Freezing peanuts allows them to last for years.

Freezing- To freeze boiled peanuts, place them in a sealed container or bag. Make sure the bag or container will not let any air in. Frozen peanuts will not go bad and can be enjoyed whenever you wish.

Refrigerator- Boiled peanuts can also be stored in the refrigerator. Place them in an airtight container or bag.
