How to Get Rid of Gnats

Gnats are a type of pest which, although generally harmless, can be very annoying. Gnats can lay around 200 to 300 eggs in their life span. So if you see one gnat in your house, there is a high chance of having lots of them around.

Steps to Get Rid of Gnats

  1. Remove the things that can attract them. Always put your fruits and vegetables in the refrigerator. Leftover food should be placed in a tightly closed trash bin. If you have plants inside your house, ensure that they stay damp but not wet. Your house plants should also have adequate drainage.
  2. Trash cans must be emptied regularly. Rotten food must not stay in the house. Dirty dishes must be cleaned immediately and never left in the sink.
  3. You can use commercial chemicals if your gnat problem persists. Supermarkets and hardware stores are good sources of sprays that kill flying insects. If you own pets, make sure that the spray you will use is not harmful to them.
  4. Another similar solution is a fogging product. Use this option if you are experiencing severe infestation of gnats. If you will use a fogging product, tightly seal all cabinets and containers where you store your food and utensils. After applying the fogging product, you need to leave the house for one whole day.
  5. Vinegar is another product that can get rid of gnats. Fill a jar with vinegar and cover it with the lid. Poke small holes in the lid and place the jar in the area where you see a lot of gnats. Since gnats are generally attracted to vinegar, they will enter the holes in the lid but they will not be able to get out.
