How to Add Music to a PowerPoint Presentation

Adding music to a PowerPoint presentation can help you capture the attention of your audience and emphasize the key points of your presentation. To add music to your PowerPoint presentation, follow these few simple instructions.

Required Tools

  • Microsoft Power Point
  • Music source (CD or Digital Media Player).
  1. Obtaining the music you are going to use in your presentation as an MP3 file : If you are importing your music from a CD, the music should automatically be imported as a MP3. If it is imported in a different file format, you will need to change the settings of the program you are using to import the CD. If you download the music from iTunes, you will need to convert the music into the MP3 format. This can be accomplished by selecting the following commands from the menu: iTunes, Preferences, Advanced, Importing and change the setting for Import Using to MP3 Encoder. You will then need to re-import the music you downloaded into iTunes.
  2. Inserting the Sound File:Open PowerPoint and select the following commands from the menu: Insert, Movies and Sound, and Sound from File.
  3. Editing Your Preferences: From the File Type list, select MP3. You will then be able to choose whether you want the music to start when a button is clicked or if you want the music to start automatically. If you would like the music to play during more than one slide, you will need to change an additional setting. From the Slide Show tab, choose Custom Animation. Find the Multimedia Settings option, then select Continue Slide Show and While Playing. You will then be able to select how many slides you would like to be associated with the music.
